Factors influencing the cavity include: diet (intake of sugary foods), oral bacteria, and the time a tooth is exposed to a bacteria-produced acid.

The teeth structure also matters.  Chips and cracks on the teeth are the best place for plaque to generate. This is because teeth are vulnerable parts. Teeth that toothbrush or floss cannot reach is also optimal for plaque which causes tooth decay.
